Bluetooth marketing in Santander
Within the program Ciudades Singulares, cofinanced by the regional Goverment of Cantabria and by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, TST was assigned by the city hall of Santander with the development of a Bluetooth network with 15 access points distributed through the city of Santander to inform citizens about events, activities and other actual issues in the city. Each access points supports up to 21 simoultaneous transfers to cellular phones with Bluetooth technology, and has a range of 30 to 100 meters. Using this network, the city hall has performed several informative campaigns achieving more than 140.000 downloads in one year.
On top of designing, installing, configuring and commisionning the Bluetooth infrastructure, TST developed a Java application for mobile phones that can be downloaded from the Bluetooth access points and displays on a simple and intuitive way all the information provided by the access point.
The application lets you navigate through menues. Information is organized in several categories, and the user can access any category. It is possible to adapt the number of elements in the menu, their text and their associated icon. Each category is divided into submenues. Several menu levels are possible until reaching the final content. Same as with the main menu, every submenu can contain multiple elements. The name and icon for each element can be personilized. The transition between menu levels is animated; the image rotates as a cube. The final content can include text and images. Within the text, hyperlinks like an internet address or a phone number can be included. With the hyperlinks the user can access a website or make a call directly.
The Bluetooth network is managed through a simple application. It is possible to plan campaigns, manage contents, monitor the network and gather several stats, like the model of the cellular phones detected, the ratio of sent vs. accepted invitations, the most successful hotspots with regard of traffic or downloads, and even more advanced statistics.
Below several images of the mobile application and of the management software are shown:
