T he current proliferation of broadband wireless technologies, along with more powerful and convenient mobile devices, will enable a transformational change in health management and healthcare with the introduction of real-time monitoring for a wide array of patient needs.
Low-cost sensors and wireless systems can now create a constantly vigilant and pervasive monitoring capability. TST is currently working on the integration of healthcare sensors (e.g. ECG, pulse oximetry, blood pressure) and wireless technologies (ZigBee & GPRS) to enable patient monitoring both indoors and outdoors.

Another area of activity at TST is the development of intelligent handheld devices for emergency situations. Combining a PDA, an RFID reader and a ZigBee node in a single mobile device enables a more efficient coordination of rescue and first aid teams. Patients tagged with an RFID tag can be identified by the RFID reader, and the PDA automatically displays the patient record, which are exchanged between the PDAs and a back-end server over the ZigBee network.
