Mobile Telephony
GSM standard was developed in the 80s by the GSM Association, an organization with more than 800 mobile operators and related companies that supports the standardization, implementation and promotion of GSM technology. Afterwards the standard has evolved and has incorporated GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSPA+ and LTE among others technologies.
Cellular networks were used for voice transmission in first place, but as standards evolved and bitrates increased the percentage of data transmission has increased and builds nowadays most of the traffic in the network.
